Short Bio

Esteban J. Palomo

Esteban José Palomo was born in 1982. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees (with honors) in computer engineering from the University of Malaga (Spain), in 2008 and 2013, respectively. For his Ph.D. Thesis, he was given the Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the same university. He joined the Department of Computer Languages and Computer Science, University of Malaga in 2007. In 2015, he joined the School of Mathematical Science and Information Technology at University of Yachay Tech (Ecuador). He got an appointment as Adjunct Faculty at the Simon A. Levin Mathematical, Computational and Modeling Sciences Center (MCMSC) at the Arizona State University (USA) in 2017. That year he joined again the Department of Computer Languages and Computer Science at the University of Malaga, where he is currently an Associate professor. His current research interests include unsupervised learning, self-organization, data mining, image/video processing, network security, and deep learning.

  • 08/04/2015 – 31/08/2017. Assistant Professor at the University of Yachay Tech (Ecuador).
  • 01/02/2015 – 06/04/2015. Hired as researcher by the project “Development of Self-Organizing Neural Networks for Information Technologies”, with reference TIC-6213. It has been financed by the Andalusian Autonomous Government and carried out at the University of Malaga.
  • 01/10/2014 – 31/01/2015. Hired as researcher by the project “Anomalous Activity Detection on Video Sequences using Self-Organizing Neural Networks”, with reference TIN2011-24141. It has been financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and carried out at the University of Malaga.
  • 30/09/2013 – 29/09/2014. Postdoctoral fellowship from the Andalusian Autonomous Government corresponding to the third phase of postdoctoral research and teaching training (resolution of 12/02/2013), carried out at the University of Malaga.
  • 01/04/2013 – 27/09/2013. Hired as researcher by the project “Anomalous Activity Detection on Video Sequences using Self-Organizing Neural Networks”, with reference TIN2011-24141. It has been financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and carried out at the University of Malaga.
  • 01/04/2009 – 31/03/2013. PhD fellowship from the Andalusian Autonomous Government (BOJA no. 50 published on 12/03/2008) and carried out at the University of Malaga.
  • 13/11/2007 – 30/03/2009. Hired as researcher by the project “Self-Organizing Systems for Internet”, with reference TIN2007-07362. It has been financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and carried out at the University of Malaga.
  • 18/07/2006 – 09/11/2007. Hired as Computer Engineer in an IT company called T.C.C., S.A. (Computing and Communications Technologies) in Malaga. This company is active in industrial software design and development using artificial vision.
