She received her MSc degree in Computer Science from the University of Málaga (Spain) in 1992 and her PhD in Computer Science in 1998 from the same University. She is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Málaga since 2011 (previously, Lecturer and Associate Professor from 1993). Currently, she is the head of the CAOSD research group.

Research interests

Advanced Software Engineering technologies, specially focusing on the Software Architecture:

  • Model Driven Development (MDD)
  • Software Product Lines (SPLs)
  • Agent-oriented Software Engineering (AOSE)
  • Self-adaptive middleware platforms
  • Architecture Description Languages (ADLs) and Domain Specific Languages (DSLs)


  • Component-oriented frameworks

applied to different application domains:

  • Ambient Intelligence (AmI)
  • Pervasive Systems


  • Multimedia services
  • Collaborative virtual environments




Concretely, her most significant publications can be found in international journals from IEEE and ACM, such as IEEE Internet Computing, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, ACM Computing Surveys or Information and Software Technology journals, all indexed in the Journal Citation Reports.
